The Alpine House Inn and Spa
Green Practices and Programs
“And for my part, I shall not wholly fail in my task if anything passes through this night and can still grow fair or bear fruit and flower again in days to come. For I too am a steward. Did you not know?”
– Gandalf (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King)
The Alpine House implements many environmental initiatives to reuse, recycle, and conserve in order to protect our planet. Some of our programs are certainly obvious to our guests, while others are virtually invisible, and some require active participation. As a member of the Green Hotels Association since 2001, many of our practices have been in place for several years. Some programs are new. We are constantly looking for better ways, products and resources to further reduce our environmental impact.
Some of our sustainable practices include efficiently cleaning our rooms with all natural products. Our bath amenities are purchased from local businesses and are all natural too. In order to reduce waste, we use refillable pump containers and unwrapped soaps.
We recycle everything and ask our guests to help out too. Guests can either deposit recyclables in recycling bins provided on premise or simply leave them next to the wastebasket in the room for our housekeepers to recycle. We also request that our guests turn off lights, heat and/or air conditioners when not in their rooms and ask them to respect our idle-free parking policies since idling vehicles are a major source of carbon dioxide emissions in the United States.
As a way to decrease hot water and energy consumption, we encourage our guests to reuse towels with a towel card provided in the bathroom. We change bed linens every third night, but will change them more frequently upon a guest’s request.
Our guests love using the free bikes we provide for getting around town in the summer. We’re only two short blocks from the famous Town Square which makes it very easy to leave cars parked at the inn. Ride the convenient START Bus which utilizes bio-diesel fuels. The START Bus stop is just 200 yards away. The free in-town shuttle is a great way to take a quick loop tour of the town. Most of our guests use it for transportation to the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village. Why bother to rent a car and pay for parking at the Village in the winter when the bus will drop you off right next to the ski lifts?
Recently, The Alpine House became the first lodging property in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem to OFFSET 100% OF ITS ELECTRICAL USAGE BY PURCHASING PURE WYOMNG WIND CREDITS. All of our common space and 28 percent of our guestrooms are heated by energy-efficient radiant floor heat.
We support local, organic farmers during the growing season, buy only locally roasted, organic and fair-trade coffee and serve only locally baked bread.
The Alpine House is also very pround to be a founding member of One Percent for the Tetons. Inspired by Patagonia's One Percent for the Planet, it recognizes that Jackson Hole's extraordinary natural resources are the foundation of all of our essential qualities. Founded by the Charture Institute and managed by the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, One Percent for the Tetons gives businesses an opportunity to donate one percent of their gross revenues to a fund focused on supporting conservation & sustainability initiatives in and around the Tetons.
